Introduction to American Sign Language "Listen with your eyes"
The goal for introductory Sign Language class is to teach finger spelling, conversational phrases, and a variety of commonly used signs. The class will also include introducing the students to deaf culture and a variety of web sites for independent learning. Students will be introduced to the concept of "what does it look like?" as an approach to learning this language in comparison to learning a spoken language and how words sound. Class structure will include small group centers for practicing and improving skills.
The overall goal of this introductory sign language class will be for the students to learn, recognize and reproduce 50-100 signs, to be able to spell and read finger-spelling phonetically, and to converse with others at a basic level. The course is ACT 48 approved. *Must attend all classes to qualify for a certificate of participation.*

ADVANCED American Sign Language "Listen with your eyes II"
This intermediate class has been designed to help students who have already taken the introductory class or those with some level of knowledge of American Sign Language to increase their communication and conversational skills. Building upon their existing knowledge, students will work in small groups and participate in role playing exercises that will expand their level of understanding of the concept of “What does it look like?” Students will also be asked to develop an independent study project that will help them when working in a social service situation involving clients who use American Sign Language as their means of communication. The course is ACT 48 approved.*Must attend all classes to qualify for a certificate of participation.*
Cancellations and refunds
Payment is due upon registration. Students may request a registration cancellation through the start date of the course. A $25 cancellation fee will apply. No refunds will be given for withdrawal requests after the course start date. The University reserves the right to cancel course selections. If the course is cancelled, the student will be issued a full refund.
